Spending a summer in Rancho Palos Verdes CA sounds like a plan, doesn’t it? Nicknamed the RPV, Rancho Palos Verdes is in Los Angeles County. You know the city’s nickname, but what is its translation? It means the ‘Ranch of Green Sticks.’ You have the chance to visit a whale watching site, a lighthouse and so much more. Here are some of the best things to do when you’re traveling Rancho Palos Verdes, California.

Point Vincente Lighthouse

Let’s talk about the Point Vincente Lighthouse and the Point Vincente Interpretive Center first. The interpretive center is the whale watching experience that is waiting for you. It is located off of Palos Verdes Drive, and the lighthouse is right in that area. That’s why these two attractions are going to be grouped together.

At the interpretive center, you get to walk along cliffs, and you’re going to want to take pictures. There is also a gift shop there to visit as well. One thing you might also want to do is bring a pair of binoculars. There are displays of interesting artifacts at the interpretive center, too. You get to take in the Pacific Ocean coast, and it’s going to make for a wonderful adventure.

Abalone Cove

Your summer in Rancho Palos Verdes is already off to a great start, isn’t it? The Abalone Cove Shoreline Park & Ecological Reserve might be a great place to stop by as well. It is located on the southern end of Palos Verdes Drive. There are walking trails there that are a lot of fun, and there are also tidal pools. You’re going to enjoy gorgeous views at this park and ecological reserve, too.

Terranea Discovery Trail

Terranea Discovery Trail is a wonderful place to explore during the summer, too. You might want to head right on down to the cave. It is an ocean cave, and people say that you can visit the seals there. There are also scenic vistas in that area. If you’re looking for a place to stay, you can stop right on by the Terranea Resort. You will find viewing areas complete with seating. As you can imagine, there is tons of wildlife in that area as well.

Ocean Trails Reserve

It’s back out in nature for this next attraction, too. That’s why Rancho Palos Verdes is such a wonderful place to visit during the summer. Ocean Trails Reserve is located off of La Rotunda Drive, and it is a golf course. You wouldn’t know it by its name and the picture on a top travel site. It looks more like you’re about to visit another nature reserve on the ocean. Once you start looking at the reviews, however, you see it’s a golf course.

There are other places to visit, too, of course. One of them is Abalone Cove Beach. Prepare for an enjoyable summer as you travel around Rancho Palos Verdes and see all the natural wonders. Being so close to major cities, you can also drive into town on the weekends if you like. Make sure you spend plenty of time out in nature though as it is going to be a blast.
