If you’ve noticed over the years that your appearance has become tired, sad, or angry, regardless of how you actually feel, it may be a result of your brow becoming heavier or saggier. The brow and forehead often show the first signs of aging as the skin produces less and less collagen and elastin, which are responsible for keeping the skin plump and youthful. Even the muscles of the brow can become weaker or stretched over time, contributing to a sagging appearance.
If you’re ready to revitalize your appearance and erase the signs of aging from your brow, you may benefit from an eyebrow lift surgery. It is crucial to meet with a board-certified oculoplastic surgeon to achieve the youthful, natural-looking appearance you want. Dr. Mehryar (Ray) Taban of TabanMD has extensive experience and training in a variety of eyebrow lift surgeries and can determine not only whether you are a good candidate, but which technique will produce the best possible results for your goals.
Eyebrow Lift Procedures
An eyebrow lift can be performed using a number of different techniques. Depending on the patient and the desired result, an oculoplastic surgeon may use on or more of the following eyebrow lift procedures.
Endoscopic Forehead Lift
One of the most minimally-invasive options for eyebrow lifts, the endoscopic forehead lift involves making only minor incisions along the hairline in order to insert miniature instruments, including an endoscopic camera. The skin of the forehead is loosened and the brow is lifted to a more attractive position. The incisions are concealed within the hairline, reducing the risk of visible scarring. The procedure also helps eliminate lines and wrinkles along the forehead and between the eyebrows.
Petrichial Eyebrow Lift
Ideal for patients who are not seeking to reduce deep forehead wrinkles, the petrichial eyebrow lift involves removing an ellipse or sliver of skin along the hairline in order to raise the brows and forehead. This technique is not recommended for men who suffer from male pattern baldness.
Direct Brow Lift
This technique is best suited for patients who have significant muscle weakness along their brows, which result in drooping or heavy eyebrows. The incisions are made along the eyebrows and an ellipse or sliver of skin tissue is removed. The space is closed with sutures that effective pull the eyebrows higher on the forehead. The procedure is recommended for those who have full, thick eyebrows in order to hide any scarring.
Unlike other eyebrow lift surgeries, a browpexy is performed by making incisions in the upper eyelids in order to stabilize the eyebrows with a suture suspension along the brow bone. The outcome is typically subtler than other brow lifts, but the results are permanent. In many cases, a browpexy is combined with an upper blepharoplasty to treat droopy eyelids.
