Eyelid and Facial CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing
What is CO2 laser skin resurfacing?
CO2 laser skin resurfacing is an anti-aging procedure that blends technique and technology to generate rejuvenative results. The treatment relies on carbon dioxide (CO2) and a skin resurfacing laser (ablative laser) to rejuvenate the skin and boost the production of collagen. Additionally, it helps generate healthy new skin cells while enhancing the skin’s tone and texture.
What can CO2 laser skin resurfacing do?
It can help patients improve a range of concerns, including:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Scars (including acne scars)
- Sun damage
- Texture problems (e.g., uneven texture)
- Other skin conditions
It also offers the benefits of skin tightening, creating a smoother and more even complexion. Most patients will notice improvement and a youthful glow after even a single session. In short, it can take years off your skin and help fight the effects of skin aging.
Who is this procedure for?
It is a popular minimally invasive aesthetic treatment that can be used as a stand-alone procedure or combined with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). The laser can be confined to the eyelids or extended to the full face and even the neck area. The intensity of the CO2 laser treatment is tailored to each individual needs and goals with consideration of their skin type. It is generally not recommended for darker skin tones due to the prolonged period of healing and risk for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. However, we evaluate each patient’s case individually.
How long does it take?
We start with applying topical numbing cream, which takes about 30 minutes to apply and take full effect. Then, the laser treatment can take 10–30 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.
How is the recovery?
Most patients experience mild discomfort during the healing process. However, this can be easily managed with pain relievers and will gradually resolve. Cool peel laser treatments, however, have little to no downtime. Patients who undergo a more aggressive CO2 treatment can have 3-10 days downtime with redness and scabbing. It is important to avoid sunlight during this period. as it can irritate and damage the skin.
How long until I see results?
You will see results 3–4 weeks after your treatment, and these should continue to improve. Patients can then see their full results, with the greatest benefits becoming more apparent 3–6 months after your treatment. Results depend on several key factors:
- Severity of your skin condition prior to treatment
- Skill and experience of the specialist conducting the procedure
- Intensity of the laser treatment
- Your skin type
- How many treatments you will need
