Give Your Eyes a Youthful Makeover with Cosmetic Eye Surgery

Over time, facial skin inevitably loses volume and begins to sag, creating wrinkles and hollows. This change is the most noticeable around the eyes, which can make a person look dramatically older or more tired than they really are. If you’ve noticed that you no longer look youthful and vibrant, the solution may be as simple as a cosmetic procedure for your under-eye area, brows, crow’s feet, and upper eyelids.

Droopy Eyelid Treatmetns in Los Angeles

Cosmetic eye surgery, such as blepharoplasty, droopy eyelid surgery, canthoplasty, facial fat transfer, and eyebrow lift, is a highly effective and long-lasting treatment that can restore years to one’s appearance, achieving a fuller, more youthful appearance. To learn more about these rejuvenating cosmetic procedures, please do not hesitate to contact cosmetic oculoplastic surgeon Dr. Mehryar (Ray) Taban. Call us today to schedule your first consultation at our office in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, or Santa Barbara.

What is Cosmetic Eye Surgery?

Essentially, an aesthetic surgery involves reshaping or repositioning the skin and soft tissue around the eye, depending on the type of procedure. Blepharoplasties remove excess loose skin from the upper, lower, or both eyelids in order to reverse a droopy appearance. Eyelid ptosis surgery (droopy upper eyelid surgery) lifts the upper eyelids, thereby opening the eyes more. Canthoplasty reshapes the outer corner of the eye in order to tighten loose lower eyelids. Fat injections can be used to sculpt and lift certain areas to create a full, supple appearance. Eyebrow lifts raise and contour the forehead and area around the eyebrows in order to soften forehead lines. These procedures can be done on their own or in conjunction with one another, depending on the goals of a patient.

The process of sculpting and reshaping the area around the eyes is done through minimally invasive surgery and may be performed under local anesthetic, depending on the exact procedure. If the patient is concerned about pain or discomfort, we offer the option of sedation.  While the reasons for each person undergoing a procedure differ on an individual basis, there are several telltale signs that a cosmetic procedure is right for you.

These signs include excess or sagging skin around the eyelid, drooping eyelids that may interfere with vision, and a tired or aged appearance. Depending on a patient’s needs, the results of an aesthetic surgery can actually improve vision, as eyelid issues that block sight can be resolved permanently. In any case, a consultation with a skilled surgeon like Dr. Taban can help determine which procedure is right based on individual needs.

What Areas Can Cosmetic Surgery Address?

Undergoing surgery for specific areas around the eyes can address a wide range of issues and help to reduce the appearance of:

  • Droopy eyelids
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Dark circles or undereye bags
  • Sunken looking eyes
  • Puffy, excess skin
  • Hollows around eyes
  • Eyelid folds
  • Loose eyelids
  • Tired, drooping brows

An aesthetic eye surgery procedure can effectively lift, tighten, and plump the skin up around the eyes, reversing the natural effects of time and age that can make one’s appearance become thin and saggy. Simply replacing lost volume to the area around the eyes and tightening the eyelids can actually transform one’s facial appearance. Others may notice you look refreshed and vibrant, but may not be able to pinpoint what’s different about your look.

Recovering after a Procedure

Patients can expect to experience bruising and swelling in the treated areas of the face for about a week to ten days. The body will need a few days to develop new blood vessels to support the fat grafts, during which time it is necessary to rest and avoid physically stressing the injection sites.

It is recommended that patients follow these post-op instructions:

  • Avoid rubbing the face for two weeks
  • Keep the head elevated when sleeping during first week
  • Apply ice for 2 days
  • Avoid exercise for two weeks
  • Attend follow up visits to monitor healing

In some cases, patients may undergo touch up treatments with injectables, such as Restylane or Juvederm, for any remaining problem areas. However, with help from a skilled surgeon, potential complications are very rare when it comes to surgery around the delicate eye area.
